Kurama and the Tailed Beast first appeared during Hagoromo Otsutsuki's decline, when he used the technique of Creation of All Things to divide the Ten-Tails' chakra into nine separate bodies and give each one a name. Some time after their creation, the sage explained to the young tailed monster that despite their distance, there was a bond between them. In the anime, before his death, Hagoromo sent Kurama to a temple built to protect him in a forest with mountains that would later become part of the Fire Nation.
